Watching Georges St-Pierre hand out a beatdown to Koscheck, using accurate jabs and well-placed hooks, you would think that GSP is considering going into the boxing world to find more worthy opponents. In reality, GSP only did what he’s become famous for, approaching the fight with a tactical plan that made the other guy look like a debutant.
Using a series of jabs, GSP relentlessy punished Josh Koscheck face from the early goings. After the first round, Kos’ right eye was already swelling. By the third, ring doctor, and referee Herb Dean took a good look at it, and almost stopped the figth right then and there. But the fight went on, and so did the beating. Koscheck was never close in this fight, only scoring one takedown at the end of the first round.
Meanwhile, GSP took Koscheck down four times and demolished him with a combination of jabs, hooks, overhand rights and inside leg kicks. In the end, the only thing missing was a KO.
What’s Next For GSP?
It was GSP’s fifth straight title defence, his eight consecutive win. He’s cleaned up the Welterweight division, and that’s a fact. It’s been hinted that Jake Shield could be his next opponent, but nobody really believes that Jake Shield will be able to do more than the likes of Koscheck, Hardy, Alves, Finch, Penn etc.
Many would like to see GSP move up in weight to the MiddleWeight division, to face Anderson Silva. While it would make for an epic fight, if there’s one thing we all know about St-Pierre, is that he fights with his head first, his fists and feet second. If Georges do decide to make the move, it will be after having carefully thought about it, and making sure it’s a good move for him. In the meantime, since Silva is fighting Victor Belfort in February, you can probably expect at least one more GSP WelterWeight destruction in 2011.
