How to remove all unfound songs on iTunes automatically

Figuring out how to remove all unfound songs on iTunes automatically had been puzzling me for a couple of years. My iTunes library had a lot of songs that were no longer on my hard disk, but remained in the iTunes list of songs, which gives the nice can’t locate this song, do you want to search for it type of message. Obviously, you can delete them individually, but when you have hundreds a pain, it can be quite painful.

I finally found a quick method to remove all unfound songs in iTunes automatically; it took about 30 seconds to do. I saw this method posted on MakeUseOf:

1. Visit this PAGE and right click the page and select “save as”;

2. Change the extension so that you save the file as “RemoveDeadTracks.js” instead of “RemoveDeadTracks.txt”;

3. Make sure that iTunes is closed and find the file on your computer and double-click it.

The script will open iTunes by itself and start deleting all the unfound files in your list.

*If when you double-click it opens another program (for me it opened Dreamweaver), open it by using this method instead:

1. Right-click on the file once it’s on your computer, and select “Open With Command Prompt”.

That’s it. Please note that I used this on Windows 7.
